The Baer Art Center is located on a large horse farm (the word "baer" is an Icelandic term for a farm.).  The studio complex faces the water on one side, and fields running to mountains along another.  These horses, part of the group here at the farm, graze outside in a large field near the water's edge.  They roam alongside the water, onto the "cape" nearby, etc.  A pretty nice existence, out here at the egde of the world.

You'll notice: this young one just kept staring at me.  The matted hair occurs when they are young, and drops off as they shed their hair...which, as you might imagine, is coarse and thick to help insulate them from harsh weather.

This broken-down structure, situated near the water on the farm property, was once used to dry shark meat.
Fermented shark is a somewhat common, if older/more traditional, food in Iceland.  After the meat is hung to dry in structures like these, it is buried in the ground to rot.  The resulting taste: pungent...not uinlike a ripe bleu cheese.  Wouldn't want to eat a large amount.
